War In Ukraine May 2022 Update:

The Azovstal steel plant, in the besieged city of Mariupol, is under constant fire from the Russians as Ukrainians race to rescue and evacuate the trapped civilians in the plant. Also, US intelligence suggests that Russia will try to annex the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk by mid-May. Officials also believe that Russia could formally declare war on Ukraine as soon as May 9, 2022. Furthermore, a missile hit a dormitory in the southern city of Odessa and killed and wounded several teenagers, said Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Meanwhile, Russian forces are being pushed east as Ukrainian forces have succeeded in taking territory around the city of Kaharkiv. On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, the French president, Emanuel Marcono, had a two-hour talk with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. Continuing on, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson gave Ukraine 300 million euros or 376 million dollars to help the country win the war with Russia. According to the transcript, Johnson said: “We in the UK will do whatever we can to hold [Russia] to account for these war crimes, and in this moment of uncertainty, of continuing fear and doubt, I have one message for you today: Ukraine will win. Ukraine will be free” (Sangal, et al.).

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his nightly address on Monday that Russia has forgotten the lessons of WW2. His army, the Ukrainian armed forces, repealed 12 Russian attacks in the Luhansk and the Donetsk regions by May 2, 2022. They also claim to have brought down seven Russian attack drones. In Fiji, the high court there ruled on Tuesday, May 3 2022 that the US has the right to seize a Russian superyacht that is owned by a Russian oligarch. Over in Israel, Russia is accusing the country of supporting a neo-Nazi regime in Kiev and is repeating false claims about the Ukrainian government. In return, the prime minister of Israel, Yair Lapid, accused Russia of war crimes in Ukraine and questioned Russia why they asserted that the country was in a neo-Naitz grip when the president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is Jewish (Sangal, et al.) Finally, Ukrainian forces have shot and burned another Russian warship in the black sea after hitting it with a missile strike (Korshak). In April 2022, Ukrainian Marines trapped in the steel mill of Mariupol tried to escape, but fighting continued.
