An incredibly unique aspect about Chagrin Falls High School is the amount of programs and classes its students can participate in. A great example of this is our Write Place program.
What is The Write Place? It offers students a class that teaches more revision and writing skills than a typical English class. What is incredibly special about it is the service they offer,The Write Place website, where students from both Chagrin Middle School and Chagrin High School can submit their essays and reports for help on them! Students in grades 11-12 with A or Bs in English are encouraged to take this class if they want to improve their writing as well as helping others do the same.
How do you get to the Write Place website? It’s really simple! All you need to do is go to the search engine and type in: Chagrin Falls Write Place. Click on the first link and then find the tabs located on your screen. Click the OWL tab and there you will find the form you need to fill out. Remember to change the access to your documents to ‘everyone with a link can access’ and change it to editor!
Dr. Shannon Beach began the program in 2013 along with Ms. Bobbie Serensky as a co-director. When Beach left, Serensky continued as the primary director. Serensky teaches AP Language and AP Literature along with The Write Place Internship class in room 329.
In an interview with Serensky, she stated, “Students who serve as writing interns enhance their writing skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills. They also have the tools they will need to work in a college writing center after they leave high school.”
Senior Bianca Fant is a Write Place Intern who always loved English class and helping her peers. She said that she and the other interns primarily work during 6th period but also do outside of school work as well.
“We have a lot of very skilled interns at the Write Place who are excited to help others edit and revise their papers without judgment, whether it be essays, poems, creative writing or anything else,” Fant said when asked if she recommended submitting to The Write Place.
Senior Hollie Markham is another Write Place intern. Markham recommended becoming an intern because you learn an incredible amount of writing skills and skills to help others.
Markham said in an interview, “You should submit to the write place because you will get a fresh set of eyes to look over your paper. The interns will be able to connect with students’ writing styles and provide helpful suggestions.”
Senior Nick Rohde is a student who has used The Write Place before for advice on editing his papers. The interns helped Rohde with his organization, structure, and grammatical errors he missed. This allowed Rohde to get a better grade on his AP research paper.
The Write Place aims to help students with revising their papers and usage of better writing skills, so students all over Chagrin can write like a pro! Happy writing!
