Chagrin Falls Middle School (CFMS) Cross Country (XC) team came home with a major victory at the Perry Invitational on Monday, September 9, 2024. The team won all three first place trophies and came home with more than 35 medals. The race had 13 teams, including Chagrin.
The girls ran the first race of the day and won by the top 5 scorers. They won with a score of 34. West G. was in second place with a score of 69, and Hawken was in 3rd with a score of 75.
The first place runner Lindsay Fisher said “I think I did pretty good in Perry, and I think I can improve by just pushing myself a little more to beat the girl behind me by more.”
Overall, it was a dominating victory by winning by more than 30 points scored.
Next was the boys raced, and won with a score of 60 points, then was Hawken with a score of 64 points, and Kirtland in 3rd with a score of 86.
Jack Rubin who had the highest score for Chagrin finishing in 3rd place for the boys, said “I did pretty well, I got third in the Perry Invitationals, and beat my PR (personal record) by 20 seconds.” He said, “I worked hard and practiced a lot of running.”
Finally in the open race, Chagrin also finished phenomenal with the boys getting a score of 28, and the girls getting a score of 33 in the open. Danny Flaiz placed 3rd n the open race, and first for Chagrin. Danny said he thought the race was good. In the open race, Chagrin had 4 runners in the top 10 for the boys, and the girls also had 4 runners in the top 10.
Overall it was a tremendous win for CFMS, winning all three first place trophies, when one of the coaches, Mrs. Bottcher was asked about the wins, she said “ I think everybody really worked hard, and brought their best effort, and it showed. And, we won our three trophies, it’s fantastic.”
