Story by Mack Huckabey
During the month of November, staff and students at CFMS participated in a fundraiser called No Shave November and Wild Wigs as a fun way to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). In the end, $700.75 went towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
At the beginning of the month, the male staff members who participated in “Weird Beards” took a picture to mark the start of their beard growth. The staff members who participated included Mr. Matt Volk, Mr. David Kimball, Mr. Todd Thombs, Mr. Kyle Patterson, Mr. Ken McClintock, Mr. Geoff Brown, and Mr. Marty Ratcliffe. Students were given the chance to donate money to LSS in the name of the staff member they wished to pie in the face at the culminating assembly held on Tuesday November 21.
For the women participating in Wacky Wigs, pictures of the female teachers were displayed on a jar in the Innovation Center. Students were then able to donate any amount of money to go towards the teacher they wanted to wear the wild wig. The women that decided to participate this year were Ms. Nicole Martorello, Mrs. Christina Cline, Mrs. Kathleen Aranavage, Mrs. Tamara Shishila, Mrs. Samantha Genshock, Mrs. Jennifer Remaley, and Mrs. Carole Dennison. Mrs. Dennison raised the most money for Wild Wigs and wore a bright orange wig all day on Tuesday the 21st.
In addition to the No Shave November and Wacky Wigs fundraising efforts, CFMS hosted the Kona Ice Truck in November, and owner, Steve Barta, gave $200 of proceeds of sales to our cause. Further, over 100 students sent grateful grams to friends and staff members with lifesavers, bringing in another $150 for LLS.
