Students travel to Cuyahoga National Park for Science & Art Field Trip

The CFMS 8th grade group went on a field trip to Liberty Park on Friday, September 15th. Before leaving the class to get on the bus the 8th graders finished their Iready tests and went over basic rules on how to behave.

While talking with one of the field trip coordinators, Senora Kathleen Aranavage, she gave insight into why we decided on Liberty park. She stated, “8th grade feels strongly that taking field trips really enhances your learning experience.”

Aranavage feels as though kids learn better when they can be a part of something and not just sit in a classroom watching slideshows. Having kids see and experience different things helps them grasp the subject more and gives insight into what is actually going on. The 8th graders were given a checklist one side for art, and one side for science. On the art side, kids were encouraged to take pictures on things such as repetition or bright colors. On the science side, kids were told to take pictures of certain areas, for example, an eroded cave or vegetation.

“I really enjoyed spending time with friends and getting to see the beautiful nature,” said 8th grade student Emma Gisher.

Mackenzie Huckabey, also known as Mack has loved taking pictures and writing ever since she was about four years old. She enjoys reading, coloring, hanging out with her friends, and watching movies. She grew up in Orange County, California and moved to Ohio when she was six years old.

Gabe Miller, Photographer

Gabe Miller has gone to school at Chagrin Falls for all of his life and has wanted to take pictures for the school for quite some time now. Gabe is a scuba diver and used to play baseball. He likes to go to games and take pictures so he thinks this will be a good thing for him. He is 12 years old and soon to be 13 years old. Gabe loves to take pictures and post so this will be so fun. Gabe has lived in Ohio for all of his life and loves to cook, bake and scuba dive. Gabe also has a brother in 5th grade and a mom and dad, two dogs, and a cat at home.

Charles Stewart, Photographer

Charles Stewart is a photographer for the CFMS newspaper. Charles has been going to Chagrin Falls since preschool. He is currently in 8th grade. He enjoys traveling, photography, and hanging out with friends. He also enjoys math and science. In addition Charles plays football, lacrosse and he wrestles. In the future he wants to be a doctor.

Charlie Bird, Reporter

Charlie Bird is a seventh-grade student. She really likes to write, take photographs, and draw comics so she thought the newspaper club might be a place where she could grow those interests. Charlie lives with her Dad part-time in Chagrin and the other half with her Mom in Willoughby. Charlie also enjoys other interests such as reading, collecting animal bones, and taking nature walks. Charlie’s dream pets would be two rats named Merlin and Arthur.

Liv Cline would like to be a photographer for the school newspaper. Something to know about her is that she moved to Chagrin schools this year from West Geauga. She also wants to be an x-ray technician; it is like being a photographer for bones. Liv’s favorite sports are softball and cheerleading. She can be a quiet person, and she enjoys observing the world around her.

Kate McKenna, Photographer/Writer

Katherine McKenna, known as Kate, is a current student at Chagrin Falls Middle School. She enjoys reading and writing in her free time. She is a photographer and writer for Tiger Tales. Kate is fond of rainy and stormy weather. When Kate is older, she dreams of becoming a therapist and living with a cat in Seattle.
